Nigeria: Yuguda Drops Two Commissioner Nominees

18 July 2008

GOVERNOR Isa Yuguda of Bauchi yesterday dropped two out of the nine commissioner nominees earlier submitted to the state Assembly.

This action is coming barely 24 hours after the list was submitted to the State House of Assembly for ratification.

In a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Dandija, the governor sought the permission of the house to withdraw the names of the two nominees from the list.

Presenting the letter on the floor of the House, Majority Leader Dayyabu Ciroma, said that former Head of Service, Alhaji Yahaya Yusuf and Alhaji Mu'azu Usman were dropped.

Usman was substituted with Alhaji Garba Dahiru.

It will be recalled that Yuguda had on Tuesday submitted a list of nine nominees following a major cabinet reshuffle in which six commissioners lost their jobs.

In another development, the Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed two bills into law.

The bills are for the Bauchi State Agency for Nomadic Education and the Bauchi State Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The legislation followed the adoption of two separate reports by its Education and Commerce Committees.

Chairman of the Education Committee, Alhaji Aminu Tukur (ANPP-Lere/Bula constituency) said that the bill would facilitate the establishment of the Agency for Nomadic Education in the state.
