Angola: Portuguese Entrepreneurs Urged to Continue Investing in Country

The Portuguese prime minister, José Sócrates on Thursday here encouraged his country's businessmen to continue investing in Angola, so as to contribute to the reciprocal development of both states, Angola and Portugal.

Speaking to the press and to businessmen of his country, at the 25th edition of the Luanda International Trade Fair (FIL), where the business class was awarded with a "Golden Lion" prize and a certificate attributed by the event's organising body, the premier said that Portuguese businesspeople should continue investing in Angola with a greater engagement and will.

He continued by saying that both states share the same investments and goals, therefore, Portuguese entrepreneurs should do their best to help build a better Angola.

"I hope you know that the Portuguese government is proud of your work, due to the contribution in exports towards improving Angola's development level", he stressed.

At the occasion, Sócrates referred that Portuguese exports to Angola have grown greatly, from 300 million to 500 million Euros this year, but he also highlighted that Angola has companies that can invest in Portugal.

The politician also said that next September's elections will contributed more to the Angolan development.

Portugal has 10,000 companies in Angola and it is the country with the greatest foreign representation in FIL2008, with 120 firms, this is why the Portuguese entrepreneurial class was awarded the "Golden Lion" prize and a certificate for their constant and biggest participation in this annual event.

FIL2008 dedicated Thursday to Portugal and Spain. To remind that Wednesday was dedicated to Germany and Friday is being dedicated to the oil sector.

The event is expected to close next Sunday (July 20) and is being attended by 550 national and foreign companies.
