Ghana's female U-21 hockey side will today battle their Nigeria opponents for supremacy, as they revive age long rivalry between the two sides, for the third place position in the Africa U-21 Hockey Championship.

The Ghanaians gained an automatic qualification at the expense of their Kenyan counterparts, who failed to turn up in their decider match.

The Kenyans cited financial constraints from their Federation as reason for their boycott of the rest of the tournament.

Happenings from the Ghanaian camp point to the fact that the Ghanaians are bent on going all out to at least defeat their West African neighbors, to return home with a bronze medal.

Indeed, they demonstrated glimpses of what they are capable of doing at their training session yesterday, after they had been notified that their opponents had pulled out of the competition.

"We are leaving no stone unturned. Although the Kenyan's failed to appear, we are trying our hands on set pieces before we leave for he hotel," Coach Richard Abaidoo said after the announcements of their opponents unavailability for the match.
