Kenya's U-21 male and female hockey teams currently participating in the 9th Africa U-21Hockey Championship have laid down their tools and have decided to head homewards.

Their reason for boycotting the hockey fiesta is alleged to have been necessitated by the Kenyan government's inability to release funds for the team as promised.

This decision has compelled the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to apply its disciplinary rod on the Kenyan team by striping them off their accumulated points and goals that they have earned in the competition so far. The competition is expected to end tomorrow.

The Kenyan team were scheduled to play Ghana (ladies) and South Africa (male) yesterday, but they failed to show up.

That guaranteed Ghana's ladies an automatic qualification to play for the third place.

The vice chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA), Mr. Richard Akpokavie, who is also an FIH member and also one of the tournament's officials, said in an interview that the FIH will meet tomorrow to deliberate on further punishment for the Kenyans.
