US under secretary for Economy, Energy and Agricultural Affairs, Reuben Jeffery III, is expected Monday in Luanda for a visit to Angola, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

During his two-day visit, the US official will meet with Angolan authorities, to analyse issues of bilateral interest and reiterate his country's commitment to a democratic, prosperous, secure and peaceful Angola.

According to a press communiqué released by the US embassy in Angola that reached Angop on Friday, Reuben Jeffery III assists the US secretary of State in the domain of international economic policy and leads the department's work on matters related to trade, agriculture, aviation and bilateral relations with economic partners. He also coordinates issues associated with international energy.

This is the highest US official to visit Angola, after the former secretary of State, Colin Powel, in 2002.
