Uganda: First Casino Opens in Jinja

Kampala — MANAGEMENT named it Nile View Casino although from the building, there is no view of River Nile, but a splendid scene of Lake Victoria's Napoleon's gulf. As the cool lake breeze blows gently, patrons get down to gambling from 4.00pm to 4.30am daily.

The conveniently placed bar adjacent to the gambling parlour 'charges' the brains of the revellers as they try out their luck.

Located on the first floor of VISVAR Building on Plot 54, Lubas Road in Jinja is the first-ever such establishment outside Kampala.

The club also has an executive wing. The dimly-lit room with sound-proof walls gives patrons a chance to concentrate on their game.

Once in a while, somebody jumps up in joy to signify a win. The losses are usually accompanied by swear words.

John Kahwa of the Kads Band fame is a guest artiste at the Casino every Friday where he entertains guests into the wee hours of the morning.

The place also has secure car parking. Budget Mugabirwe, the proprietor, says construction began in 2003 but the casino only opened in October 2007.
