Kenya: Boxing - Police Win National League Third Leg in Nakuru

Nairobi — In Nakuru, Kenya Police won the third leg of the National Boxing League when they amassed 25 points during the contest at the Madison Square Garden Nakuru on Saturday.

Prisons were second with 21 points ahead of Armed Forces who won 19 points. Nairobi's Muthurwa Dallas managed only four points with hosts Nakuru Amateur Boxing Club finishing last with one point.

Peter Mungai got Police off to a winning start when he beat Evans Kamau of Kenya Prisons. Benson Gicharu of Police in lost the flyweight contest to Simon Mulinge of Afaba. Thomas Kasina out punched Moses Gitonga of Afaba in the featherweight on points.

Anthony Napunyi on Saturday won a points decision over Tanzania's Anthony Mathews in an eight-round super bantam-weight non-title fight in Nairobi.

However, the fight did not live up to its expectations as Napunyi was not impressive in the manner he approached the bout.

Work to do

Napunyi's corner has a lot of work to do before he defends his Universal Boxing Council title in Nairobi next month.

The bout of the day turned out to be in the welter-weight under-card between Kennedy Muiruri and George Owano which Muiruri won on points.

The best women's bout was between Benedetta 'Suppu' Kaloki and Christine Auma. In the heavy-weight category Adhiri Idris pro debutant to beat Obadia Mwangi on points.
