Lagos — The Pepsi U-17 International Football Festival being hosted in Abeokuta by the Pepsi Football Academy is attracting the cream of football officials, administrators and scouts to the ancient city to watch the Pepsi Academy students, Nigeria U-17 national team and youth football academies from Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria showcase their skills at the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium Abeokuta.
Some of the personalities expected at the event include Dr. Amos Adamu, WAFU President and FIFA/CAF member, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, NFA member while Alphonsus Dike, Chief Coach of the Golden Eaglets will lead his players and crew to the competition.
Also, Ladan Bosso, head coach of U20 national team is expected to be present.
From West Africa will come Alhaji Omar Sey of Gambia while FIFA agents Hubert Peterschelka from Austria and Willy Dorkeno, France have confirmed their presence.
Also Heinz Marotzke, a former technical adviser to FIFA and Sports Consultant, with Chris Robinson and Ben Watts, both from UK will also attend the competition
According to Coach Kasimawo Laloko, Director of the Pepsi Football Academy, "the Pepsi U-17 International Football Festival which is an annual event has come to be recognised as a forum in which the best of youth talent in West African football always come to showcase their skills."
Coach Laloko informed that apart from the football competition that would be taking place on the field of play, other activities have also been lined up for the festival.
"These will include refresher courses that would be organised for the benefit of the youth football coaches in Nigeria and others that will be attending the festival in Abeokuta, including the invited foreign teams."
He also said that some recreational activities have been planned for the period of the competition, such as visit to the Olumo Rocks tourist centre.
The football competition proper kicks off today with the final game billed for Saturday.
