Owerri — Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, has in the last one year, spent about N2.6 billion on security issues.
Also, United Bank for Africa (UBA) has made a donation of five Hilux Security Vans and Communication Equipment valued at several millions naira.
Receiving keys of the vehicles at the Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri, Ohakim expressed gratitude to the bank for partnering the state government in ensuring security of lives and property of the people and investors.
He said "you are performing this gesture not only as partners to the state government, but as a social responsibility which you owe to your host communities and numerous customers," adding that UBA was also partnering with the State's Clean and Green Initiatives by maintaining some Roundabouts in the State capital.
Ohakim said the state was not relenting on matters concerning security, as efforts were being made to link the 27 local government areas with security network, and conclude on a plan to launch another security outfit in the state that would be the first of its kind in the country.
Presenting the keys, Deputy Managing Director (South) of UBA, Mr Phillips Oduoza, who was accompanied by other senior staff of the Bank, said the decision to partner Imo State government was in realisation of its 14-point agenda, with security as one of the key components.
