Sawa

Different seminars focusing on the role of the Eritrean students movement in the struggle and the all-round participation of women were conducted for the 3rd National Youth Festival participants in Sawa.

Highlighting the role of the Eritrean students movement in the liberation struggle, the Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Ahmed Haji Ali, explained the major role the youth and students played in the Eritrean people's struggle for independence. He indicated that youths and students made vital contribution through rebuffing all acts of conspiracy designed to weaken their ranks. Eritrean youths residing abroad in particular took active role in undertaking media campaigns and other activities aimed at acquainting the just struggle of the Eritrean people to the world community, he added.

Noting the significant role which the revolutionary youths played in enriching the political and ideological foundation, Mr. Ahmed underscored that following the establishment of the Eritrean Students Union in 1978 equally contributed material and financial assistance. He further called on youths at present to strive for building a strong and prosperous nation.

Likewise, the Minister of Labour and Human Welfare, Ms. Askalu Menkerios, called on Eritrean women youths to avail themselves of the existing educational opportunities, and thereby reinforce gender equality. She went on to remind them to preserve the equality Eritrean women fighters ensured in days of the armed struggle and achieve competitiveness in educational pursuit. Ms. Askalu stressed that gender equality is measured in terms of work, competence and being competitive.
