The coastal areas of Oron in Akwa Ibom State, have been declared the most HIV/AIDS endemic zone in Nigeria , with a prevalent rate of 14.7percent.
This was disclosed by Mr. Udosen of the State Action Committee Against the Spread of HIV/AIDS while speaking at the 'premier of pains and profits, a movie produced by royal crusaders production as an advocacy campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS pandemic in the state.
The SACA Director of Information, who represented the state at the occasion, noted that Akwa Ibom, with a prevalent rate of about eight per cent ranks second beating, Benue State with 10 percent prevalence.
He commended the efforts and initiative of the producer of the movie and promised to partner with her in order to take the message to every nook and cranny of the state and at the same time, provide them with entertainment.
The Akwa Ibom State first Lady, Mrs. Uloma Akpabio, represented by the wife of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs. Ini Ignatius Edet, in her keynote address, described the movie as a creative means of sensitising the people on the repercussions of such virus.
Mrs. Akpabio, commended the producer of the movie pastor Sandra Wilson, for embarking on such an important and laudable initiative. She further expressed the hope that the project would serve the purpose of reducing the spread of the disease in the state.
The first lady urged the people of the state to rise up to the challenge and fight the scourge.
She pledged her continued support to the producer and encouraged her to ensure that the message is taken to the remotest villages and hamlets across the state.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Executive Producer of Royal Crusaders Production, Pastor Wilson, said she got her inspiration after watching the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio's lamentation on the prevalence of HIV in the state. She stressed that her effort was just a modest way of supporting the state chief executive to ensure that the spread of the virus is curtailed adding that the movie would teach through entertainment the unhealthy ethical and moral issues that have continued to encourage the spread of the virus.
Sandra, described pains and profit as her own way of complimenting the campaign by the state action committee against HIV/AIDS and appealed to the state government SACA, private individuals and corporate organisations to support the effort of Royal Crusaders Production by ensuring that the movie is shown in all the 31 local government areas of the state.
