Gambia: Gambian Athletes Conquer Lome

Gambia has captured eight medals in the just concluded West Africa Junior Athletic Championships in the Togolese capital Lome.

The five member team to the annual regional event won six gold medals and two silvers.

Sprint star Suwaibou Sanneh won the 100 metres with a timing of 10.5 a bit above his personal best 0f 10.4 which he ran in Addis Ababa in May. He is still looking to hit the magic Olympic qualifying time of 10.2 for the 100 metres. Abdoulie Assim took silver in the same event.

Sanneh continued his dominance in the sprints clinching gold in the 200 with a respectable 21.4 seconds. Isaac Jones finished second capturing the second silver for the Gambia. Modou Lamin Kujabi continued Gambia's top flight reign taking gold in the 400 and 800 categories. He ran 48.5 in the 400 and 1.53.36 minutes in the 800.

The young Gambian athletes completed their stunning performance successfully defending the country's title in the 4x100 metres relay with Sanneh, Assim, Jones and Omar Ceesay combining well to take gold in 41.26 seconds. The team rounded up their great outing also winning the 4x400 relay in 3.17.00 minutes.
