A rainstorm has ravaged 18 classrooms at the Government Science and Technical College, Mubi, in Adamawa State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the evening storm that occurred on Sunday also affected the school's staff room, chemistry laboratory and parts of its girls' hostel.
The school's Principal, Mr Alex Ngura, told NAN that all the affected classrooms were in the junior secondary school section of the college.
Ngura, who described the havoc as enormous, however, said that nobody was injured, as the students were not in school due to the nationwide teachers' strike.
"If the students were to return now, it would be difficult for us to conduct classes," he said.
He said that the incident had been communicated to the state government for intervention.
The principal, nonetheless, noted that most of the school's structures were dilapidated and required prompt rehabilitation.
"The school needs general rehabilitation, as most of the structures like the hostels and staff quarters are very old, and they have problems such as leaking roofs," Ngura said.
NAN also reports that the rainstorm also affected primary schools and some residential buildings in Mubi.
Malam Ahmed Dan-Rimi, Education Secretary of Mubi North Local Government Council, also confirmed the effect of the storm on some primary schools.
He, however, conceded that he had so far received a report from one primary school on the damage caused by the rainstorm.
"The headmaster of Mubi Primary School was the only one that has so far reported to me about the damage in the school, which also affected his office," he said.
