SUNGURA artiste Aaron "Chinamira" Chakanyuka has died. He was 38. Chinamira died last Thursday at his rural home in Gutu after a short illness. He was buried in Sorti Source Village in Gutu communal lands on Saturday.

Stanley Ruzive, an official from the Zimbabwe Music Corporation, the stable that recorded the late musician, described the passing on of the Dendende Express founder as sad.

"He was a good composer who had recorded 13 polished albums with ZMC," he said.

Chinamira, who built a strong name for himself in the mid '90s, will best be remembered for his craftily woven songs that included Chidadiso, Chido Chemoyo and Nhamo Yemudhorobha.

But it was from one of his hit tracks titled Chinamira that Chakanyuka earned the nickname - Chinamira.

However, his biggest let down since the mid-90s until the time of his death had been the lack of marketing and sound management to run his affairs.

But overally, without taking anything from him, Chinamira was immensely gifted in other departments - songwriting, arrangement and choreography.

The multi-talented instrumentalist was one of the several guitarists to have emerged from Chitungwiza.

He held a number of successful shows with both living and departed singers during his heydays.

Chinamira, who was largely self-taught also weaned a number of successful guitarists among them Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria's bassist Nasho Azzatti. At one point, Chinamira competed fully with the likes the late Admire Kasenga, the late Fanuel "System" Tazvida, Jonah Moyo, Somandla Ndebele and even Alick Macheso.

The late Chinamira's choreography was also rich and inspiring.

At the time of his death, the singer had recorded such albums as Boorangoma, Tadavira, Chaputika, Simbiso, Chidadiso, Hobho Kudai, Mahindekinde, Sengajira, Zvinengozi, Hits (1997-2005), Take Take among other albums.
