THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has awarded a contract worth more than K100 billion to Raubex Contractors to maintain the Kasama-Mbala- Mpulungu Road.

RDA acting manager for planning and designs, Daniel Mulonga, said in Kasama yesterday that the works on the 210-kilometre stretch were awarded to Raubex Contractors.

He said the contractor would first work on the Kasama-Mbala stretch at a cost of K59.9 billion and later Mbala to Mpulungu at a cost of K59.8 billion, bringing the total to K119.7 billion.

"The contract will involve patching, paving drainage, double surface dressing and will last for 15 months," Mr Mulonga said.

He said consultants on the project would be East Consult and BNC who would be paid K3.9 billion.

Works are expected to commence in the next three months.

Mr Mulonga said the contractor was expected to be on site in the next seven days.

He also said that RDA would advertise for the design and building of the Mbesuma bridge.

He said that RDA was discussing with the consultant the process of reviewing the project after reports of the auditor-general highlighted some financial irregularities with regard to the bridge.
