The stamp programme marking the 2010 FIFA World Cup has been approved, Government Spokesperson Themba Maseko said on Tuesday.
Cabinet approved the programme at the ordinary meeting on Tuesday.
The 2010 stamp programme includes a series of stamps celebrating South African Bird Series, Taxi Hand signs and the 150th Anniversary of the South African Railways.
"Cabinet approved the 2010 proposed stamp programme which will include stamps to mark South Africa's hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup," said Mr Maseko.
He explained that the Department of Communications (DOC) would approach world football governing body FIFA for approval prior to issuing the world cup stamps.
President Thabo Mbeki also formally welcomed Kgalema Motlanthe to his first Cabinet meeting.
Mr Motlanthe will take up his position as Minister in the Presidency, heading up Government Business.
Mr Maseko announced that a Treaty of Friendship and Partnership between South Africa and the Russian Federation was approved during the meeting and would be submitted to Parliament for ratification.
"Cabinet received a progress report on the establishment of a National Health Insurance for South Africa and noted that legislation relating to the establishment of the Risk Equalisation Fund was before Parliament.
"The meeting approved the extension of the deployment of 1 137 members of the South African National Defence Force [SANDF] in Burundi who are part of the African Union (AU) Special Task Force," said Mr Maseko. -
Blaze at Kruger Park flats kills five <mailto:mohauram@mpg.gov.za>

Pretoria - At least five people were killed in a blaze at the Kruger Park flats in the Pretoria central on Tuesday morning.
The fire, which is believed to have started in the rubbish chute of the building, had been extinguished and the situation was under control.
Police spokesperson Director Sally de Beer told BuaNews on Tuesday that two people jumped out of the burning building and three people died inside.
The residents at the time were being evicted by the metro police and a private security firm in order for renovations to take place.
Last week Tshwane Executive Mayor Gwen Ramokgopa visited the Kruger Park and Schubart Park council flats to announce that they were due for renovations saying that the buildings were not safe to live in.
"More than 13 people had been rescued from the roof of the building in an operation involving three police helicopters and three Air Force helicopters," Ms de Beer told BuaNews, adding that a police fixed wing aircraft was also deployed.
The number of people injured was yet to be determined and it was not clear what started the fire.
The divisional commissioner of visible policing Arno Lamoer has expressed appreciation of the heroic efforts of the police Air Wing.
"I would like to personally thank members of the SAPS Air Wing for their heroic and selfless efforts.

"I have no doubt that our pilots and crew can be counted as among the best in any police service in the world and I have every confidence that they will continue rendering a professional airborne law enforcement service to the people of South Africa", said Divisional Commissioner Arno Lamoer.
