Nigeria: Ekiti Crisis - Oni, Lawmakers Disagree Over New Speaker

A fresh bid at resolving the crisis rocking the Ekiti State House of Assembly has again hit the rock, as the lawmakers, yesterday, refused to agree with the governor's choice of the speakership.

The meeting of the aggrieved lawmakers, otherwise known as the G-18, with Governor Segun Oni was deadlocked last week, which prompted the re-scheduling of another meeting for yesterday.

The meeting was said to have commenced with the 13 PDP lawmakers parleying with the governor and other chieftains of PDP.

Sources at the meeting between the 13 PDP lawmakers, PDP chieftains and the governor told Vanguard that the governor's position was to give the former Speaker, Mr. Femi Bamisile, an opportunity to resign from his former position and to pave way for the election of a neutral lawmaker as the new speaker.

However, the five PDP lawmakers were said to be adamant and told the governor that the issue of who becomes the speaker of the Assembly had been settled with the election of Tunji Odeyemi.
