Nigeria: Cholera Kills 12 in Kaduna

No fewer than 12 people have been killed following a cholera outbreak in Kubau local government area of Kaduna State recently.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) investigation showed that both adults and children were affected by the outbreak in Anchau and other villages in the area.
Malam Audu Maiwada of Dan Hauya village, told NAN that four persons were killed by the disease which hit the village three weeks ago.
Sources said that six people died in Anchau General Hospital where most of the cholera victims were receiving treatment.
Two other people were reported dead in Kubau and Kargi villages respectively.
The Council Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Garba, confirmed that four people were dead while several others were hospitalised at the government health centres as a result of the outbreak.
He said that the most affected areas include Anchau, Kubau and Dan Hauya.
The council chairman attributed the outbreak to poor drainage system and consumption of polluted water by the populace.
He further explained that almost 90 per cent of the sources of drinking water in the area had dried up.
He said the council had purchased drugs and deployed health personnel for emergency treatment and control of the disease.
He appealed for the quick intervention of Federal and State governments.
