Uganda: URA Reach Semis

Ten-man Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) advanced to the semifinals of the on-going Cecafa Clubs Championship following a 2-0 victory over lowly Miembeni FC from Zanzibar yesterday.

Striker Ismail Kigozi nodded in with ease from a Dan Wagaluka cross, giving pre-match favourites URA a 25th minute lead before pressure mounted on Miembeni defender Lulanga Mapunda to score an own goal that sealed the game on 71 minutes.

URA would have gone into recess with a comfortable lead but Robert Okello and Wagaluka squandered several chances. Miembeni changed their approach in second half, resorting to a psychical and rough style that resulted in an injury to Wagaluka. This prompted URA coach Moses Basena to make an unavoidable substitution, bringing on Henry Kiseka for Wagaluka.

Despite the loss of Wagaluka, URA kept on the pressure. Sam Mubiru sent a long cross that Mapunda tapped into the top left corner, sending his goalkeeper Farouk Ramathan the wrong way. Their jubilations though came to a halt when Kenyan referee Thomas Oyango red carded midfield gem Tony Mawejje.

URA now face home side Simba, who defeated defending champions APR 2-0 in another quarter final yesterday.
