Angola: Remains of Musician Teta Lando Buried Today

Luanda — The remains of Angolan musician Alberto Teta Lando, who passed away last July 14, in Paris (France), will be buried this Wednesday at Alto das Cruzes cemetery, in Luanda.

Before the funeral, to happen at 01pm, a programme of homage to the late chairperson of the National Musicians and Composers Union (UNAC) shall be held at Cidadela's main pavilion, in the country's capital (Luanda), where the remains are in a mourning chamber since Tuesday 05pm after arriving from Paris.

Born in Mbanza Kongo city, northern Zaire province, in 1948, Alberto Pedro Teta Lando chaired the UNAC since 2006, when he was elected by members of the General Assembly.

Under his leadership, UNAC obtained from the government a pension reform for musicians with more than 35 years of careers or with 65 years of age.

With vast repertoire, with highlight to the songs "Reunir (Funge de Domingo)", "Angolano segue em frente", "Tata Nketo", "Ntoyo", "Eu Vou Voltar", "Menina de Angola", "Negra de Carapinha Dura" and "Quimbemba", Teta Lando began living definitively in Angola in 1989, after having participated in the National Culture Festival (Fenacult), held at Cidadela National Stadium.

Along over 20 years of career he learnt to work with sound, having followed the career of cultural businessman, with the intention to promote young talents who might have proceeded with what portrays his life as a musician, song writer and person linked to culture.

Apart from various LPs, the artist leaves a legacy that includes the albums "Esperanças Idosas (old hopes)" and "Memórias (memories)", the latter a collection of songs written during his career.
