Abuja — The House of Representatives will today commence Public Hearing on a bill seeking to regulate the practice of Animal Health and Husbandry through the establishment of Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria.
The Hearing being organised by the House Committee on Agriculture under the chairmanship of Honourable Gbenga Makanjuola, was referred to the Committee after it scaled Second Reading on the floor of the House.
The bill is a private member bill sponsored by the duo of Honourables Baba Shehu Agaie the Deputy Leader of the House and Honourable James Baitachi.
The Bill if passed would establish the board who would have the obligation to determine the standard of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons seeking to become Animal Health and Husbandry Technologists.
It would also have responsibility to promote the highest standards of competence, practice, conduct and welfare amongst members of the profession.
Acceptable minimum qualification for the purpose of registration, under this act is Higher National Diploma of the College of Animal Health and Production Technology or its recognised equivalent qualification.
Those with Professional Diploma or degree of any recognized university in relevant fields would also be admitted.
