Tunisia: Launch of the 26th Edition of the Gabes International Festival

The 26 th edition of the Gabes International Festival was launched on Friday by Mr Taoufik Baccar, the Governor of Tunisia's Central Bank.

The opening ceremony which pays tribute to the area's artists also retraces the artistic wealth of the Governorate of Gabes in the fields of singing, music, poetry and dance.

The program of this 26 th edition which is due to be pursued until August 12, 2008, will comprise 19 evenings featuring singing, drama performances and poetry, , including shows by the Tunisian singer Amina Fakhet, on July 27, and the Syrian Nour Mhanna on August 3.

Theater lovers will have the choice between 5 plays featuring a new play by Jalel Saadi, featuring Mouna Noureddine and Kaouther Bardi on August 9.

Last but not least, the organising committee has planned the organisation of an international conference on "Translation and Culture". The event is meant to further strengthen the festival's intellectual dimension.
