Windhoek — Tungeni Africa Investment plans a whole new facelift for the Namibia Wildlife Resort (NWR) properties at Mile 72, 108 and Jakkalsputz as well as Von Bach Dam.
The company, which was established in 2006, mainly deals in facility and infrastructure development.
One of the partners and Managing Director of Tungeni Africa Investment, Iyaloo Ya Nangolo, says the company sourced its funds from its shareholders and commercial banks.
The company envisages investing N$6,6 million mainly from partners in the three West Coast camping sites and N$450 million for the Von Bach Dam.
Overall, the company paid N$5 million in signing fees to the NWR.
Tungeni Africa states that it wants to fulfill Government's objectives of encouraging public private partnership.
The company is a black economic empowerment group and seeks to redress the skewed distribution of income and wealth in Namibia.
Ya Nangolo however declined to reveal the partners or shareholders in the venture, saying he does not see public interest in knowing about them.
A number of the company's representatives were however present at the signing ceremony, but it is not clear whether all of them were represented that day.
NWR recently entered into a number of public private partnership (PPP) agreements for the upgrade and management of some of its resorts in central and western Namibia.
"Some of the camping sites are in a bad condition.
"There are no proper ablution facilities and we have to work on that," Ya Nangolo referred to the three camping sites at the coast.
At the Von Bach resort, the company envisages to build en-suite bungalows and to improve the existing ones.
"Currently, 22 bungalows are sharing ablution facilities, which is something that we want to change," the managing director of Tungeni Africa Investment said.
A restaurant close to the dam is also planned. There is currently only a kiosk to cater for visitors' needs.
Also in the pipeline is the development of holiday properties that can operate on a long-term sub-leasing concept, as well as bungalows next to the dam.
"We also plan to encourage water sports which is currently only practised by certain private individuals and not well incorporated," added Ya Nangolo.
The company wants to promote water sports such as skiing, yachting, canoeing, fishing, while also bringing in trainers for these activities as well as 24-hour lifeguards at the site.
