Nigeria: Patani LG Boss Laments Rate of Abandoned Projects

CHAIRMAN of Patani Local Government Council, Mrs. Josephine Abeki has frowned at the rate with which contractors abandon projects after receiving a better payment of the contract sum.
Abeki who was speaking at Patani when executive members of the PDP in Patani and Chiefs Forum, Patani Local Government paid her a solidarity visit, said majority of projects her administration would execute would be done through direct labour.
She reiterated that her administration was determined to develop the council area, adding that the council's fund would be used judiciously. She held that she has paid about N36 million out of N38 million inherited as claims owed to the council staff.
The council boss who also disclosed the council's preparedness to boast agriculture through interest free loans to farmers in the area, encouraged women to form themselves into co-operative groups.
Abeki who spoke separately during the two separate visits, however told intending contractors to register with the council, stressing that the council would follow due process in awarding contracts.
Earlier in his speech, PDP chairman in the area, Mr. Godbless Omoniyi enjoined councilors to open liaison office in their various wards and said the party would not hesitate to discipline any erring elected or appointed political office holder from the council area.

In his own speech, chairman, Chiefs Forum, Patani, Chief Rowland Biu urged the council chairman to build staff quarters for the council officials as away of encouraging them to stay in Patani.
