Prosperity Africa is the public-private partnership partner of the Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) for the Daan Viljoen resort.
NWR recently entered into a number of public-private partnership (PPP) agreements for the upgrade and management of some of its resorts in central and western Namibia.
The group envisages an investment of N$40 million to upgrade the facility into a Wellness and Lifestyle node, offering accommodation, restaurant, conference facilities and health spa, within the landscape of the game park to cater for medical and wildlife tourism.
"This is the first phase, where people can be rehabilitated after undergoing an operation," said a shareholder, Ranga Haikali, referring to the envisaged health spa.
Haikali said with the initiative, the company wants to explore the untapped potential of health tourism in the country.
The signing fee for this particular group was N$1 million, with a monthly lease of N$25000 and 10 percent of gross turnover to be paid to NWR.
The lease period is 30 years.
Prosperity Africa was established in the early 1990s as a specialised healthcare management company that has grown from one member in 1994 to a multinational business with over 450000 insured beneficiaries across Southern and East Africa.
Initially established to provide cost-effective health insurance and medical scheme administration services to the Namibian market, Prosperity has grown and diversified itself to become a fully integrated financial services provider featuring medical administration and insurance, long-term and life insurance, direct to market short-term insurance and the provision of emergency medical evacuation and paramedical services across the region.
In Namibia, Prosperity services incorporate medical aid funds, which include the Roads Contractors Medical Aid Scheme, Napotel Medical Aid Scheme, Namdeb Medical Aid Scheme, and the Renaissance Health Medical Aid Fund, rated as the leading medical aid fund for commerce and industry.
The company also made history in 1999 by becoming the first healthcare and management company on the continent to secure a private-public partnership with the Namibian Government in a total outsourcing contract to manage and administer the government medical aid scheme (PSEMAS) for public servants.
