Assistant inspector general of police yesterday disclosed that they were working closely with the attorney general's office to ensure that suspects in the cocaine matter are charged to court by Thursday July 24.
AIG Francis Munu, in charge of crime services, said the matter would be charged to court even though they were yet to compile their investigations on the matter.
He said the constitution of Sierra Leone makes provision for a stipulated period within which accused persons in detention must be charged to court; therefore, investigators would want to ensure that they abide by that provision.
"Investigations for crime like this will take ten days. Suspects who are now under police custody can be arraigned on several count charges which include the violation our airspace rules, destruction of the perimeter fence, possession of fire arms among others. These are the first charges we consider when we carry out our investigations on the drug issue," he said Munu said the investigation might take a long time in order that they could provide a comprehensive report at the end of investigations.
He said they have prepared an international warrant of arrest and have forwarded it to Interpol to track down all fugitives.
He confirmed that some international experts from the United Kingdom have joined in the investigations.
"We are not only investigating the landing of the cocaine plane at the Freetown International Airports but we are also investigating events out of Sierra Leone as it has been disclosed that one of the accused has a company in Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom.
We have a series of challenges in our investigations as some of the suspects speak Spanish and Portuguese," he said.
Munu added that they were working assiduously to complete the investigations within a given period.

He called on Sierra Leoneans to understand the complexity of the matter and exercise patience.
Is this matter too going to be a NOLLE PROSEQUI??
They better investigate that matter properly because that cocaine issue is already in New York times and washington post. Eventhough state department is already aware of the cocaine issue in Sierra Leone, we the concern citizens of Sierra Leone are asking for their assistance in the investigations. We know the few people who have been arrested are only the puns. The major players are at background. We dont want this matter to be Nolle Proseque.
I agreed with Crystal comments that they better investigate the matter properly. No one is above the law in any democratic country, let the law takes its cause, the truth justify its self, and let the righteous ones dont suffer for the wicked because of political backings.
