Luanda's provincial secretariat of the Angolan Red Cross (CVA) will start, next September, a cholera prevention campaign, in collaboration with its German counterpart, aimed at informing the population about the cares to be taken with the disease.

Speaking to ANGOP this Wednesday, the provincial secretary of CVA, Makumbundu Kiala said that this campaign will only take place in Cacuaco district due to the recent high rate of the disease.

According to Makumbundu Kiala, although the situation is under control, the activity also aims at sensitising residents, as the rainy season looms closer and cholera cases tend to increase due to poor basic sanitation.

The Angolan Red Cross has been working in partnership with the Ministry of Health in the combat to cholera ever since some cases of the disease were recorded in February 2006, in the country's capital, Luanda.

The organisation has been holding awareness campaigns for the population, as well as distributing water purification products.
