Angola: Premier Represents Head of State At CPLP Summit

23 July 2008

Luanda — Prime minister, Fernando Dias dos Santos walking to the plane to travel to Lisbon (Portugal)

The Angolan prime minister, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, left Luanda on Wednesday for Lisbon, Portugal, to represent president José Eduardo Santos at the Summit of heads of State and Government of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP)), taking place from July 24-25.

The promotion and dissemination of the Portuguese language, consular co-operation and assistance among the eight member states are topics to be analysed at the VIII Summit of the CPLP.

Consular co-operation will allow citizens from one country that has no consular representation in a certain foreign country to benefit from assistance from one of the CPLP countries.

The CPLP member States will also approve a declaration on HIV/Aids "for the countries to adopt common policies in fighting the illness", based on studies conducted by the organisation in co-ordination with the UNAids, among others.

A debate about a proposal to facilitate the transportation of cultural goods through member States is part of the agenda as well.

CPLP is made up by Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor.
