The Government of Belgium has made a significant donation of 3,300 pairs of rain boots to the ministry of Gender and Development. Officials of the ministry said the donation.

The Director of the Division of the Women Empowerment at the Ministry of Gender and Development, Parleh Harris received the donation received the items on behalf of Minister Varbah Gayflor.

She told The Analyst that the latest donation is a result of several appeals made by Minister Varbah Gayflor to the Belgium Government when she visited the country recently.

According to the Gender Ministry official, the boots will be distributed to women across the country as a means of encouraging and empowering rural women to get actively involved in agricultural activities.

Besides that, she said the ministry has just concluded the first phase of a nationwide tour aimed at distributing loan incentives to women across the country.

She also said several women have been identified to benefit from a micro loan project organized by the ministry with funding from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Madam Harris, a former running mate to Nathaniel Barnes of the Liberia Destiny Party during the 2005 general and presidential elections did not say how much money the women received, but indicated that those who benefited from the micro loan project were graduates of the National Adult Literacy Program.
