Mr. Ali Abdu said that ensuring regional peace and stability depends on the coordinated effort and outlook of youths in the region. He made the remarks in an extensive briefing he gave yesterday at the Assembly Hall of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers to the participants of the Regional Youth Conference on the prevailing political situation in the Horn of Africa and the Eritrean government's policy regarding different spheres.

Youths from Sudan, Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia are participating in the conference in Asmara under the theme "Youths of the Horn Region for Peace and Development."

Mr. Ali pointed out that the holding of this historical conference is significant in terms of time and agenda topics, as it is being held at a time when the region is engulfed in deep crisis due to external interference. Noting that peace could not be achieved simply because one sings a song of peace, he explained that it requires coordinated struggle, tolerance and meeting demanding challenges.

Stating that youths of the region have a historical mission to accomplish in ensuring peace and development, Mr. Ali stressed the need for developing common vision and standpoint so as to coordinate their endeavors and successfully realize the set objective. He further underlined that a time when the world media outlets are portraying Africa as a continent of poverty, ignorance, disease and corruption, the African youths should keep pace with the era of information technology and upgrade their potentials, thus putting up strenuous efforts to change the negative image of the continent with promising development and prosperity prospects.

Challenging the western concept of "might is right,' Mr. Ali Abdu stated: "We should assert that justice is might." He went on to explain that the people and Government of Eritrea are exerting vigorous endeavors in promoting regional peace and stability through pursuing foreign policy based on respect to sovereignty and territorial integrity. In this regard, Mr. Ali expressed conviction that provided such endeavors are supplemented with the initiative and contributions of the youth in the region, the desired peace and development goals could be achieved in the near future through liberating the region from the interference of external forces and their servants.
