Ghana: Papic Can Make Phobian Hearts Beat Again

21 July 2008

Kosta Papic says he can bring the happy times back to Accra Hearts of Oak but has warned the club's demanding fans that it will take time.

The Serbian has agreed a three year deal to manage the former African champions who are badly in need of rehabilitation after finishing 8th, their lowest in well over a decade.

The club was ravished by in-fighting amongst senior figures and poor results on the field but Papic is confident his time at the club will be a story of brilliant attacking football and a will to compete and win.

"I find it a good challenge," he said. "Hearts of Oak is a big club with ambitions just like me."

"Nothing will happen immediately so everyone should be patient because it takes time to get your ideas through at a new club. But when it happens they will be happy.

"I belong to the school that believes in free flowing attacking football and that is the philosophy I will coach Hearts of Oak with."

Papic is the third European to take charge of Hearts in two years after the bitter spells of the Bulgarian Kostadinov Dobrev and Israeli Eyal Lachman and takes charge of the Phobians after working in South Africa and Nigeria.
