Cheslea's new signing Deco has named Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien as the club's most important player.

Deco, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona this summer, has played against Chelsea in two Champions League encounters in his days at the Spanish side.

He covers a lot of ground and he is here and there all the time. He was the toughest one for me

Deco pinpointed the most difficult opponent in a Chelsea shirt that he has faced in the clashes between the two clubs in European football.

"Didier Drogba is a very difficult and strong player but the hardest one was Michael Essien," Deco said.

"He covers a lot of ground and he is here and there all the time. He was the toughest one for me."

Essien has already won the heart of new coach Felipe Scolari, who sees the Ghanaian as the key player in their bid for four titles next season.
