Students have been urged to partner with the Government in the fight against fires in institutions. Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese Christopher Kakooza said: "Students and school authorities should become vigilant and corporative.

Whenever you see something you are suspicious about in the compound, please report the matter to the Police."

Kakooza made the remarks while addressing students of Our Lady of Africa Girls Secondary School Lubaga as he celebrated 25 years of priesthood recently.

A Police report on school fires revealed that one of the causes for suspected arson incidents was indiscipline and revenge by students against fellow students and school administrators.

The report added that out of 26 fire incidents reported since April, at least 11 were cases of arson, while 10 were caused by negligent or careless acts.

The five cases, including the April 14 fire in which 20 girls died at Budo Junior School, were unresolved.
