Politicians learn of the parties contesting in the legislative elections of September 5

A total of 10 Angolan political parties and four coalitions have been cleared to participate in the legislative elections of September 5 this year, after the Constitutional Court (TC) went through their files submitted between June 27 and July 7, Angop learned Wednesday in Luanda.

After going through the files, the plenary of the TC gave a green light to the ruling Angolan People's Liberation Movement (MPLA) party, National Union for Total Independence of Angola (Unita), National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA) and the Social Renewal Party (PRS).

Also cleared for the legislative contest have been the Democratic Renewal Party (PRD), Liberal Democratic Party (PLD), Angola's Youth, Labourers and Peasants Alliance (PAJOCA - PP), Democratic and Progress Support of Angola (PADEPA), Democratic Party for Progress of Angola's National Alliance (PDP-ANA) and the Front for Democracy (FpD).

AD-Coligação, New Democracy (ND), Political Electoral Platform and Angolan Fraternal Forum (Fofac) are the coalitions that got the pass for the legislative elections.

Meanwhile, the court Wednesday turned down the candidatures of (PDA), led by Alberto Neto who, in the 1992 presidential elections came third, after outgoing José Eduardo dos Santos and Opposition Jonas Savimbi, Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Republican Party of Angola (PREA).

Also banned from the parliamentary contest were PSA, PNDA, PACIA, UNDA, MPR/SN, PDUNA, PDPA - NTO BAKO and PSPA, that have been given a 24-hour deadline to appeal with the Constitutional Court.

The coalitions (CPO) and (POC) also failed to get a permission to contest in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

The copies of the lists of the contesting parties and coalitions will be channelled to the National Electoral Commission (CNE) that will do the casting for their printing on the ballot papers.

A total of 34 applications for candidatures for the September 5 legislative elections were submitted to the TC between June 26 and July 7. 10 pertained to party coalitions.
