After its scheduled tour of the United States of America was shelved last year, owing to some logistic reasons, the National Troupe of Nigeria's contingent comprising twenty four artistes, three officials, one art journalist finally departed Nigeria for Trinidad and Tobago yesterday night on a performance tour.

The tour facilitated by the Faculty of Humanities and Education of the University of West Indies and sponsored by the Federal Government is designed to strengthen the nation's cultural ties with the two countries. The Troupe led by its Director General cum Artistic Director, Prof. Ahmed Yerima will be presenting its award-winning dance drama 'Iba' during the tour that will span two weeks.

It will be recalled that 'Iba' was scheduled to tour the United States in September last year, but the xpnd2tour was shelved as a result of difficulties in obtaining the class of visa the United States Embassy insisted the troupe must obtain for the tour. It was based on that, that the production was rested but, it was later recalled for presentation at the National Festival of Arts (NAFEST 2007), in Makurdi, Benue State and at the Abuja Carnival 2007 which held in November, 2007 in Abuja.

Of the twenty four members of cast, eleven are guest artistes, while the rest are core artistes of the National Troupe of Nigeria. The dancer and Choreographer, Dayo Liadi of the Olori Oko fame is top on the list of the invited guest artistes. The others are the famous chanter singer and dancer, Ayo Ewebiyi, the flutist and member of the Ebonyi State Arts Council Chukwuma Abarah, Morofu Onaolapo of the Oyo State Arts Council, Adeyerni Olumegbon of the Lagos State Arts Council; Casmir Onyemuchara of the Abia State Arts Council, Austin Otahagwa of the Edo State Arts Council, and Etim Archibong who is a former artiste of the National Troupe of Nigeria.
