Not fewer than 10 people have lost their lives and others seriously injured over a land dispute in Akesan, Igando axis of Alimosho local government area of Lagos State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the clash over a piece of land which erupted Tuesday was aggravated by thugs said to have been hired by a party to the dispute from Agege and Mushin.

Our source said the dreaded ethnic militia, ,popularly known as OPC, were invited by one of the parties to the disputes, adding that the OPC members came in two buses marked XH 391 BDG and XN 266 MUS armed with dangerous weapons and charms with which they maimed the thugs and land speculators that equally came to the scene of the disputed lines to get their own part of the land proceeds.

The OPC members, who earlier attracted the attention of Nigeria Police Force with gun shots that were fired at random, had to hurriedly leave the scene with many of them sustaining injuries.

The policemen who came to the scene of the clash abated what would have resulted in more casualties.

According to the Divisional Police Officer for Igando Police Station, Mr M Aghedo, who led his men to the scene, the hoodlums who brandished dangerous weapons such as gun, knives charms and unleashed mayhem on the people in the area, adding that weapons were recovered from the thugs.

The Lagos State police spokesman, Mr Frank Mbah, already who confirmed the incident, said suspects have already been arrested.

As at the time of filing this report, some residents were said to have relocated from the area following threat from the warring parties that what happened was a child's play and a rehearsal of the actual showdown that would take place any soon in the area.
