The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) is to combat the activities of human traffickers in Yala by posting its men to markets, motor parks and other spots which have served as departure outlets for kidnappers.
Mr Abel Bello, the Commandant of the Cross River State, made the declaration in Okpoma, the Yala Council headquarters while visiting formations of his command in the area. He, however, told the Council's Chairman, Barrister Fidel Egoro, in an interactive section, that the corps which came into existence during the General Yakubu Gowon's regime in 1967 known as the Lagos State Security Committee has since metamorphosed into a national security agency with a wide range of powers to protect public installations and also to investigate, arrest and prosecute petroleum pipeline and PHCN vandals.
He further explained that over 65, 000 people applied to join the corps, but only 12, 000 were engaged by the Federal Government. He called on the council chairmen to provide assistance to volunteers who were yet to be absorbed as regular members of the corps by paying them stipends to encourage them to remain in the corps while awaiting their absorption since they were offering valuable services to the society.
The commandant stated that members of the corps have been warned against taking bribes since they were well paid. He said any corps caught in the act, would be shown the way out. "The Federal Government is paying us well. The money I earn I cannot spend it in one month. Even those who are on level two, if they are careful, the money they earn would take adequate care of them before the end of the month. If the Federal Government has taken the pains to pay us well why take bribe?"
The commandant commended the Yala council chairman for his effort in improving the welfare of member of the corps serving in the council and called for more assistance to enable his men put in their best.

The Divisional Officer, Mr. Michael Manga, in his address said members of the corps have been providing valuable services in the council by undertaking patrols even at night to ensure a crime free society. He said the establishment of additional out post at the Okuku Market is to facilitate the monitoring of crime by men of the corps both in the day and at night.
