Kaduna State chapter of the National Coalition on Affirmation Action (NCAA) has reinstated its determination towards lobbying for the passage of a bill on gender equity and equal opportunities before the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

On the benefit of the bill if passed, Ngukwase, who is also the Project Director of Connecting Gender for Development(COGED), added that it would promote and protect the rights of citizens, investigation of human rights abuse, promotion of the rule of law and to serve as an avenue for people in the state who are discriminated against to seek legal redress or arbitration. She also stated that it would be a liaison between the government and the civil society organisations, aside other aims of providing jobs and consultancies for specialised persons.

She also decried the situation women face, particularly the gap that exist in government institutions, saying "In ministries in Kaduna State, female employees constitute 35.06 per cent while males constitute 64.94 per cent. In parastatals, males have a higher percentage of 82.30 per cent compared to 17.70 per cent for females, and at local government councils, employees are mostly males with 74.93 per cent while females constitute only 25.07 per cent.

"More men are found in waged employment than women, and most men are in higher positions while women remain in lower ranked positions, characterised by low wages. Women who are employed are denied maternity leave and in situations where they are allowed to go on maternity leave, their salaries are not paid in full".

She concluded by saying that women have proved that they can successfully manage their lives as wives, mothers and employees in complex ways, balancing out domestic and employee responsibilities, noting that it was important for the government to support women to gain employment on equal basis with men, and employers should provide an enabling environment for nursing women so as to a better society.
