The Police this afternoon released the three Mengo officials and re-arrested them shortly.

They had by this morning all been brought together to Kyenjojo Police Station where the release and re-immediate arrest was effected.

Reports from Kyenjojo indicate that the release was effected at 3:45pm and barely 15 minutes later, the freed officials lost their freedoms when they were taken in again.

Mengo information minister Peter Mayiga, his deputy Medard Lubega and the chairperson of the Civic Education Committee, Betty Nambooze, were first arrested in Kampala on Friday and ferried to western Uganda, where they were separately held in Police stations in Bundibugyo, Kyenjojo and Kibaale districts.
