The third national championship in badminton will take place this weekend in Maroua. According to a release signed by the president of the Cameroon Badminton Federation, Jean Paul Belinga, the competition will be only in two disciplines; simple men and simple women. For this reason, every delegation will comprise two athletes; one male and one female. There will however be exhibition matches in the cadet, minor and Benjamin categories only for athletes from the Far North province.
Prior to the beginning of competitions there will be a technical meeting on Saturday July 26.
The Maroua tournament will be followed by the championship finals in Bertoua which will be in the senior, junior and cadet categories. In the senior and junior categories, the Centre and East provinces will field five female athletes and ten male athletes each, whereas the Littoral Province will field three women and six men. The other provinces will send one female and one male athlete just as in the Maroua tournament. The Centre and East provinces will equally have the Lion's share in the cadet categories, shortlisting five men and five women each, meanwhile the other provinces will provide one male and one female for the competition. There will be exhibition matches for the minor and Benjamin categories while participation in the veteran category will be free. The competitions in Bertoua will be simple men and women, double men and women and double mix.
After the Bertoua championships, there will be another tournament before the cup of Cameroon, dubbed Top Ten friendship tournament which counts for the second national open. This will bring together the five best athletes from each province both in the male and female categories. During the Cup of Cameroon finals, only winners of each province including the finalists from the Centre, East and Littoral provinces, will take part in the competition.
