Angola: Health/Mass Media Partnership Defended

24 July 2008

Luanda — The Angolan minister of Health, Ruben Sicato, on Thursday defended the reinforcement of partnership between the sector of health and mass media professionals, meant to contribute to the improvement of Angola's sanitary indicators.

This view-point was expressed at the opening of a roundtable on the "Mass Media Role in Promotion of Public Health", promoted by the state-run Angola National Radio (RNA).

At the act, the minister of Health considered that the partnership will assure society's participation in the fight against great endemic illnesses, through adoption of basic measures of prevention, mainly against preventive ones.

This partnership, he said, is justified for the fact that there is a need to send to the population a stronger and stronger, clear, scientifically proved message free from sensationalism.

Thus, the minister Ruben Sicato called on both sides to work without putting at risk the professional secret, respect to patients and deontological norms in each sector.

Topping the agenda are themes such as Public Health/strategies to fight Great Endemics, Media Practice in Public Health Debates, Hypertension and Sexual Impotency: Two Illnesses - Two Recent Problems of Public Health.
