A new wave is sweeping in radio business. Though this time round starting with the Ssuubi FM. At the launch of the fans' club for the Namirembe Road-based radio, members resolved to engage in development programmes. The over 200 fans gathering for the first time agreed to form a cooperative, start a saving and credit scheme to improve on their incomes.
Managing Director Ahmed Bogere Masembe explained that by promoting a saving culture and investing wisely, radios would do much to empower the local people.
The event attended mainly by new artistes like David Lutalo of the Kapapaala fame, the radio's boss Ahmed Bogere Masembe, a former CBS sports presenter, said the radio has helped to promote local musicians and it was time to turn the heat on mobilising the local communities towards economic empowerment.
"The reason we are in this business is to make sure our people live a dignified life and receive a wide range of choice," Masembe said.
Masembe, a sports journalism veteran, is the second CBS worker to quit CBS to launch his own radio stations. The first was Peter Sematimba, the Super FM proprietor.
