When a music group is baptised God's Army, it gives a feeling that you are about to see men and women dressed in angelic white ready to guard what is heavenly on earth - well, that is only part of what the gospel dance troupe can do.

The army green - dressed gospel dance group has proved they can stand the test of time as in their five years of existence, they are transforming into a formidable dance force as witnessed in their recent performances like at Kirk Franklin's show at Lugogo last month.

Founded by Jimmy Kwoba with three colleagues in 2003, God's Army has grown from a church-based dance troupe to winning awards and travelling around the globe crusading for the youth to join church and keep away from drugs.

Among the different dance styles that have made them a household name include krump, dance hall, hip hop, Zulu dance and Street dance.

"The road has not been easy; God has made us pass through a lot," Kwoba says. "Sometimes we lack what to eat, rent, schools fees for members some of whom are orphaned".

But the 21-member group travels now and then to Europe for concerts and has performed in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Germany. They are planning another tour to the US by the end of this year.

God's Army whose list of songs include:Talimba, Kiwede, In my weakness, Shika shika, Osiliye, Bcoz we pray, which are off the Talimba album are in the winning mood having scooped three accolades in the Viga gospel awards last month.

They have in past walked home with best dance group contests such as soul fest 2006 and the Jinja dance competition in 2005. "We have also worked with other youth organisations in the fight against Aids and averting drug usage among young people, and many churches," Kwoba says, adding that plans are underway to work with Straight Talk and with several youth projects and churches with which they share the same mission.
