Uganda: Cranes Coach Here Next Week

A new Cranes coach is to be in place before the new GTV National Super League commences on August 2. This was revealed by Fufa President Lawrence Mulindwa while picking up the utl-Uspa award on behalf of the Cranes. The Uganda Sports Press Association on Monday chose the national football team as the top sportsmen in June.

"Our (Fufa) technical team is working round-the-clock and we want him to have a look at the local players before the next game. Getting a coach is a process and the team is interviewing candidates," he said.

Asuman Lubowa, Crispus Muyinda, Patrick Ogwal and Tom Lwanga constitute the team charged with finding Csaba's replacement. Uganda's next Africa Cup/ World Cup qualifier is away to Niger on September 6.

Mulindwa said that the much sought after compensation from former Cranes coach Laszlo Csaba, who departed for Scottish Premier League (SPL) side Hearts is purely an administrative matter. He was responding to recent media reports that Fufa is seeking Shs320m ($200, 000) from Hearts for Csaba.

"The compensation fee is an administrative matter, which is being handled by our (Fufa) lawyers and some federation executive members and therefore it shouldn't be discussed in the public domain," a calm Mulindwa said.

The Cranes won the June award after collecting 605 votes to stave off the Rugby Cranes who fetched 590 votes. Striker Eugene Sseppuuya came third with 380.

"The award is a tool for motivating the players and furthering togetherness after losing a coach. I believe it will also boost the players' morale for the next games," he remarked. utl's Corporate Brand Manager Charlotte Kemigyisha handed over the monthly award.
