The Modelling and Reinforcement to Combat HIV/AIDS (MARCH) Project of the Addis Ababa University (AAU) on Tuesday awarded certificates to 103 volunteer students from the university for their contribution in the university's effort to combat the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS.

The awardees students attended training for eight days (58 hours) on "Application of behavioral change communication strategies for HIV/AIDS".

The training which consists of a nine-module curriculum was jointly designed by the university's instructors and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health/Center for Communication Programs-AIDS Resource Center (JHU/CCP-ARC), Professor Tsige Gebremariam, Vice President of Graduate Studies and Research said during the award ceremony held at the AAU Cultural Center .

According to Professor Tsige, the MARCH project is implemented together with modelling components of printed form of comic books, and training students through conferences, talk shows, drama, sports, and literature.

AAU's MARCH Project is a new and innovative program intended to educate university students through behavior change communication schemes.

The project mainly uses role models in the print drama series "LIFE 101; The Journey", and has conducted reinforcement activities like Certificate Curriculum Program with a view to help create a supportive environment within which the promoted behavior changes can be sustained.

The Project is ran by AAU MARCH Project office with technical assistance from JHU/CCP-ARC and funded by the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief ( PEPFAR) through Center for Disease Control ( CDC-Ethiopia).
