Uganda: FUFA Centre Erection Starts Next Week

Kampala — Construction of the FUFA technical centre will take off next Tuesday after the involved parties agreed on the bill of quantities.

The start of the project, which has been delayed since February, was further complicated by a variation in the Bill of Quantities and a VAT component which made the contractors hesitate.

"They all met with FIFA officer Ashfor Mamelodi and agreed that they will have to review their quotations. We will meet Friday (today) and discuss a way forward," FUFA executive committee member Moses Magogo explained.

He said that the project located in Njeru town will host both a natural and artificial field. It is estimated to cost over $400,000 (sh684m).

The centre, which is the second venture for Uganda under the FIFA Goal Project, will host a hostel, bar, training fields, gymnasium, swimming pool and conference hall among others. The first phase of the Goal Project saw the construction of the FUFA House at Mengo.

Meanwhile, the local football federation has embarked on its ten-year development plan, aimed at improving soccer standards in the country.

"Remember, when we came in office our target in the first years was to clear the federation debts and also try to rebuild the image of soccer in the country. We have done a bit of football development but we are now embarking on a 10-year development plan," said Magogo, adding that the general general assembly slated for August 23, will discuss the plan.
