The Sierra Leone U-17 team, Sierra Stars are said to be on a voluntary mission to eliminate their Gambian counterpart, The Baby Scorpions in preparation for the 8th African U-17 Championship, in Algeria With barely a month to face the Gambians, the players and the technical team are said to be under intense preparation even though they have been training on a voluntarily basis - without allowance and other facilities.
Addressing the players after yesterday's training session at the National Stadium practicing field, the team's assistant coordinator, Victor Lewis applauded the players for keeping to their promise to render voluntary support to the country.
"I thank you all so far as we all have agreed to do a voluntary job for the country. It is the responsibility of the government to take care of the team but we are aware that they are under pressure," he said.
"We are calling on people to make donations to the team. We need similar support from the public just like they did for the senior national team, Leone Stars." He further revealed that the team will move to camp next week but failed to disclose the venue. He however mentioned that the team will be camped outside Freetown.
Lewis called on the players to be determined in their prospect to qualify for the U-17 championship in Algeria.
He also advised the players to forget about the recent Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) politics saying they should rather focus on playing their game.
"The SLFA politics should not be your concern. You all must be loyal to Sierra Leone and do your best in flying the country's flag higher in your own way," he noted.
