Nigeria: NMA Wants IG to Resume Enquiry on Missing Doctor

NIGERIAN Medical Association (NMA) Delta State branch has called on the Inspector General of Police to re-open investigation into the case of a medical officer attached to the Health Centre of Oleh campus of Delta State University (DELSU), who was reported missing in September 2006.
Rising from its annual general meeting in Asaba, the Association in a seven-point communiqué jointly signed by the newly elected Chairman, Dr. Akpufuoma Pemu and Secretary H.C. Okwuokenye said "we lament the protracted issue of her missing member. Dr. I.O. Bello. He was last seen in September 2006. MNA requests the Inspector General of Police to reopen the investigation on Dr. Bello's disappearance".
They lauded the state government on the implementation of the free maternal health programme in all state-owned hospitals and urged the local government chairmen to key into the programme for health centres.
The NMA also calls on the Federal Government to re-enter into negotiation with NUT to resolve this unfortunate situation to enable our children go back to the classrooms.
Also the Federal Government should also reopen discussion on the Medical Salary Structure with NMA to avoid another impending industrial disharmony.
NMA appeals to the state government to implement the circular on the Head of Local Government Administration to enable our colleagues and other professionals in the Local Government Service Commission rise to the peak of their careers.

It also calls on the state government to create senatorial medical zones to be headed by Permanent Secretaries who must be Medical Doctors.
