The Tanga Cement international tennis championships started yesterday at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club with fans complaining about unfair pairings.

During the morning session second match Sebastian Mtupili, who is above 30 years old, played against ten-year old John Njau in the best of three tie.

As expected Mtupili whitewashed the teenager by two straight sets of 6-0 and 6-0 to cruise into the second round.

Most fans felt that players should have been categorized according to their age for fairness and competitive spirit to prevail.

In the opening tie Karimu Ramadhani saw off Hassan Kasim by 6-4, 6-1 at the centre court.

Tanga Cement's managing director, Juerg Fluehman, said his firm was backing the tournament for the third year running with the objective of nurturing relationships among players of the region.
