Harare — TWO Zupco employees were yesterday arrested for allegedly stealing an assortment of spares and fittings valued at over $60 trillion from the company's workshop in Chinhoyi.
The spare parts, which were stolen between June 2007 and July this year, included tyres, headlights, window panes and fluorescent lights.
Mashonaland West Provincial police spokesperson Insp Paul Nyathi said Austin Tendaupenyu (33) and Livingstone Mushopi (27) would sell the spare parts to individuals in Chinhoyi.
"The two were arrested after police received a tip-off from people who had bought some of the spare parts.
"The suspects allegedly sold some spare parts to Edwin Kwashira, who runs a garage in the town," Insp Nyathi said.
He said police recovered six window panes and several other small items worth $20 trillion.
Tendaupenyu and Mushopi are currently in police custody and will appear in court soon.
Insp Nyathi, who appealed to people who might have bought spare parts from the suspects to contact Chinhoyi police station, said investigations were underway.
